Compassion and Social Services
Social Service organizations are the heart, the hands, the feet, and the face of compassion and compassionate action in the community. Through their work, people in need are touched, fed, clothed, and nourished in body and spirit. In all faith traditions, as well as in the secular world, people are encouraged to lend a hand to those who are not flourishing.
The Golden Rule, found in most world religions, states to treat others as you would like to be treated. An expanded version of this rule is to treat others in the manner they would like to be treated. This requires the effort to respect and understand the other. A familiar Native American saying is to walk a mile in the moccasins of the other before you judge, good advice for all. A worthy goal for all communities is to see that all members of the community are flourishing. For those desiring to be a part of this effort, volunteering and donating to these worthwhile organizations is a good place to start.
Compassion and Social Service in DFW
There are many organizations in the DFW Metroplex that are addressing issues of homelessness, food scarcity, lack of decent affordable housing, and many more issues that face us today. However, in many cases, there is a lack of coordination of benefits and many groups that are looking to the same population for support. In each town within the Metroplex, this is repeated, often to the frustration of both the service organization and those looking for areas to give time, talent and resources.
Compassionate DFW seeks to be a resource where individuals and organizations can join hands and efforts to the greater good of all our various communities. We invite you to join us—to weave your compassion with the same heartfelt impulse of both friends and strangers throughout the DFW area. Read about how to become a partner, and raise your voice for compassion with other Partners and members of the Charter for Compassion International (CCI) and the Compassionate DFW community.
Opportunities and Goals for Social Service
1. To inform current DFW Social Service providers about Compassionate DFW and the Charter for Compassion.
2. To encourage DFW Social Service providers to become Partners with the Charter for Compassion International and subsequently with Compassionate DFW.
3. To create a platform that Social Service providers can find others in the DFW Metroplex in order to work together to serve our community.
4. To provide a means of informing our community of volunteer opportunities within the Metroplex.
