What Indigenous Religions Teach Us About Nonviolence – Peggy Larney – Citizen of the Choctaw Nation
August 8, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
| FreeContemporary indigenous religions are founded on a deep respect for Mother Earth and recoil at modern violence directed at the natural world. They also have deep reverence for the Great Spirit to whom they own their lives. These ancient traditions have much to say to moderns about violence and nonviolence.
Our presenter for August 8 is Peggy Larney, a Dallas resident, a full-blood American Indian and aCitizenoftheChoctawNation. She will address from the perspective of her own people the theme of The 2nd Community program for 2016: Owning Violence: Affirming Nonviolence.
Peggy is the Founder of the American Indian Heritage Day in Texas and Founder of I.C.A.R.E. (Indian Citizens Against Racial Exploitation). She is a lay member of the Tyler Street United Methodist Church.
