Compassionate Art

Art, like compassion is one of the beautiful, expansive practices of the human spirit and much is to be learned and experienced at the intersection of both. Experiencing and creating art invites mindfulness, self-reflection and the opportunity to see the world in a new way. The same is true for compassion. It is our hope this sector can rely on the shared potential of a life in art and a life in compassion creating a much-needed gateway to more love in the world.

Compassionate Art in DFW

The Arts and Culture Sector of Compassionate DFW is committed to strengthen the Dallas Fort Worth’s work in compassion through our many and diverse arts organizations. In 2017 the Dallas Arts District’s Compassion Council was formed to bring together Compassion Ambassadors from each of the arts/commercial/religious/education organizations in the District. This new organization, chaired by Andy Stoker and Amy Hofland, endeavors to achieve 100% of the organizations signing the Charter for Compassion and we are well on our way.

Additionally, we offer a shared, internal calendar for expanding awareness for the events and programs promoting compassion in our work and in the world. This calendar has also inspired new and collaborative programming including partnering for the Compassion Games and the Festival of Faiths produced by the Thanks-Giving Square Foundation. Additionally, First United Methodist Church offered “Compassion in the City” series promoting new conversations in compassion.

For 2018 the Arts and Culture Sector offers “Compassion365”, a new social media campaign creating content—both programmatic and educational—to raise awareness for compassion both in the Dallas Arts District and beyond. Compassion365 can be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and contributors are welcomed.

The leaders of the Dallas Arts District are committed to leading in the spirit of compassion, inclusion and love. The board of the Dallas Arts District named Equity and Inclusion as one of the four priorities for the 2018-2020 scope of work. We will be working with the Compassion Council to develop new policies for equity and inclusion, creating new content and working with our boards to adopt them as official commitments of each organization. Each policy will be officially submitted to the Dallas Arts District, and the organization of the Dallas Arts District will also adopt a policy.
